Alberto Giacometti. Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man

The lecture focuses on Alberto Giacometti’s early work, highlighting its surprising breadth and diverse facets. It explores the influences that shaped the young artist’s development, the close collaboration he had with his father, Giovanni Giacometti, and how he gradually broke away from him. It was also during this period that he began an intensive engagement with the works of art history. Alberto Giacometti became aware of his role as an artist at a very early stage. This is evident in his first self-portraits as well as in the portraits his father painted of him.
