Opening performance – featuring the Gagliano Trio
While still firmly rooted in the Classical period, the first piano trio simultaneously points beyond it and heralds Beethoven’s distinctive style. A few decades later, Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy’s piano trio reached one of the greatest high points of the genre.
