We’re absolutely delighted that Micha Friemel is celebrating with us right now! Because the book is brilliant.

Marie and Mattia’s relationship has always been turbulent. They are now married and have two children. Their arguments are becoming increasingly heated; at one point, Marie completely loses her temper in front of her young daughter. As a result, she flees from herself.

She retreats to a mountain village, picks flowers, eats nothing but rice and reflects on her past with Mattia. In her desperate search for a knot that might be untied, she drifts further and further back into her earliest childhood. In her mind, she has countless conversations: with Mattia, with real and fictional therapists, literary characters such as Parzival, and with the clever Else from the Brothers Grimm. Quite unexpectedly, she finds the key that fundamentally changes her life. A clever, witty novel that demonstrates, in a manner as playful as it is tender, why we make things hardest for those we love most of all.
