The Camerata Zürich is a chamber orchestra with a clear profile: a lean line-up, a differentiated sound and a repertoire outside the classical mainstream. Since its foundation in 1957 by Räto Tschupp, it has focused on unconventional programmes ...
Welcome, Esther Hoppe
With this programme, Esther Hoppe opens her first season as Artistic Director of Camerata Zürich. The opening programme combines works from different eras that are at peace with each other but also unfold contrasting energies. Othmar Schoeck's "Summer Night" paints an impressionistic picture of sound full of restraint. Mozart's Violin Concerto K. 219 - the so-called "Turkish" - is one of the most unconventional and surprising concertos in the repertoire. Heinz Holliger's short miniature "Eisblumen" brings a precise and fragile sound surface to the centre. The programme concludes with Dvořák's Serenade for Strings, a work full of movement, tension and formal clarity. With this programme, Esther Hoppe builds a first programmatic bridge between classical, romantic and contemporary music - an approach that will shape her artistic signature in the years to come.
