Vorträge – Becoming Human

Conversations about empathy and the social brain With Sarah-Jayne Blakemore and Paul Bloom

Why are some teenagers self-conscious, why do they take risks and start to rebel? Neuroscientist Sarah-Jayne Blakemore explains how the human brain develops during adolescence. Does empathy encourage people to make irrational, and possibly harmful, moral decisions? Psychologist Paul Bloom explains why morality should not be based on empathy.

After their brief talks, these renowned scientists and recipients of the Jacobs Foundation’s Klaus J. Jacobs Research Prize join moderator Olivia Kühni and the audience in discussing stumbling blocks on our way to becoming human.

The event will be live-streamed here and will be followed by a reception with the speakers.

Admission is free, but please register at veranstaltung@kosmos.ch. The talks and discussion will be in English.
