Thomas Mann's last study is on display in the Thomas Mann Archive. The author's desk was an important companion through all the stages of exile: it followed Thomas Mann from Munich to Switzerland, by ship to the USA and back to Switzerland again. In this way, it became a symbol of work continuity during the emigration. Thomas Mann's own library also experienced adventurous times in exile. Preserved in the exhibition, however, is the original stand from Thomas Mann's last residence in Kilchberg near Zurich. The furnishings of Thomas Mann's last study are rounded off by a large number of personal art and utility objects, including Thomas Mann's favourite painting "Die Quelle" (Ludwig von Hofmann).
