Wolf Children (Okami kodomo no Ame to Yuki)

Mamoru Hosoda (Japan 2012)

‘One day, whilst attending her lecture, Hana spots a mysterious outsider and decides to follow him. A love story unfolds between the two of them, and even when it turns out that her new lover is a werewolf, she accepts him. Soon afterwards, Hana gives birth to two children, Ame and Yuki, two wild little whirlwinds who can also transform into wolves, and whose tiny ears are just as enchanting as their fangs are sharp. When their father is suddenly snatched away from them, Hana does her best to raise her shape-shifting children on her own, but it is no easy task. (..) Wolf Children is one of Hosoda’s most emotionally moving films, an impressively animated and heart-wrenching film about growing up, drifting apart and the choices one faces along the way.” (New York International Children’s Film Festival, March 2013)

117 mins / Colour / DCP / Japanese with German subtitles
