Negresco – A Deadly Affair
Klaus Lemke (Germany, 1967)
‘Who on earth is this stunning Laura Parrish (Ira von Fürstenberg)? When Roger, a photographer, sees pictures of her, he’s desperate to meet her – all the more so when a colleague ends up dying because of the photos. Roger, who’s ‘always been after the big bucks’, throws himself at the beautiful millionaire’s wife and spends carefree days with her on the Côte d’Azur. First at Laura’s expense, then Roger sets his sights on her criminal husband … The plot: not important. What drove Lemke: having a good time with a high-society ‘it’ girl like Ira von Fürstenberg at glamorous locations such as the Hotel Le Negresco in Nice, whilst paying homage to the ‘Euro-trash’ film genre. The cool psychedelic jazz soundtrack by the influential German saxophonist Klaus Doldinger rounds off the whole experience with ease.” (cinema.de)
“There are two songs from the Negresco soundtrack (courtesy of composer Klaus Doldinger) that no 1968 playlist should be without. One is the bombastic title track, sung by Swiss pop star Hardy Hepp, which seems to have been inspired by John Barry’s Goldfinger soundtrack. The other is a Euro-lounge highlight called ‘Tribute to Otis Redding’, attributed to Paul Nero Sounds (Doldinger’s pseudonym), which provides the soundtrack to a groovy stoner party that descends into an S&M fantasy.” (Cinema Sojourns, Aug 2019)
