Pretty Scary Things: 4x Horror
On Friday evening, 30 October, we invite you to ‘4 × Horror’, a journey through almost 25 years of Asian genre cinema. This special edition brings together films from Japan, Indonesia and Thailand, demonstrating just how differently horror can be conceived and realised – as formal experiments, cursed spaces, physical experiences or hauntings through the media. Together with the curatorial collective Never Watch Alone, the student cinemas Filmstelle ETH/UZH and Klub Kuleshov ZHdK, as well as the Art or Trash Cinema Podcast and CUT! Film Studies Society, we turn our attention to works that stage horror with an unmistakable style. From 5 pm, there’ll be snacks and drinks, and in the old ticket booth, tarot legend Madame Selma will be reading the cards – a little ritual that lifts the veil of the night just a little.
