Coletivo Gira
Women bring together their voices, instruments, and love of samba in a captivating performance that brings the great samba classics to life while also showcasing the sounds of a new generation of samba. Throughout the performance, they shine a spotlight on the work of other women, both as composers and performers.
At the heart of the concert are samba and other Afro-Brazilian rhythms, particularly those rooted in Samba de Terreiro. The sounds of hand drums, including the Ilú and conga, are a defining feature of the arrangements, specially created for each piece. They give the music a distinctive sonic identity while remaining deeply connected to its roots.
The group brings together multi-instrumentalists from different regions of Brazil and around the world. Each musician contributes her own musical identity and influences, creating a unique performance full of power and lightness. At the same time, the music gives voice to the activism and resistance of women who continue to fight for greater visibility and representation in the world of samba.
