New korean music on old instruments
With various Korean instruments (Daegeum, Saenghwang, Ajaeng, Gayageum and Korean percussion) and powerful vocals based on folk traditions, ADG7 creates a blend of Korean pop and funk with cheerful and humorous elements.
The ensemble consists of six musicians and three powerhouse folk singers. Their repertoire is influenced by rituals of shamanistic music (Gut) and the Korean folk song tradition (Minyo) from the Hwanghae region (now a western province in North Korea).
ADG7 was formed in 2015 to mark the 70th anniversary of Korea's liberation from Japanese colonial rule. Their music expresses the meaning of liberation and South Korea's desire for reunification. ADG7 has received numerous awards and performed at international festivals including WOMEX 2019, Global FEST 2020, Glastonbury and Roskilde.
