The Great Harry Hillman + Olivia Abächerli
A hypnotic journey, straddling free improvisation and composed themes. It's trippy jazz with a healthy dose of punk
After 18 years together, the Swiss experimental band The Great Harry Hillman are coming to Moods with a new album. Since winning the ZKB Jazz Prize in 2015, they have refined and consolidated their sound, which moves between rock, sound exploration, and post-jazz.
In collaboration with visual artist Olivia Abächerli, they create an immersive audiovisual experience where music and live sketching converge. While the quartet reaches an almost telepathic level of improvisation, Abächerli creates images that are projected directly onto the musicians, entering into a dialogue with the sounds.
Together, they traverse the realms of the lyrical, the surreal and the raw. It is a hypnotic journey through sound and image, straddling free improvisation and composed themes. It's trippy jazz with a healthy dose of punk, combining the beautiful with the beautifully unsettling.
Moods and the renowned Swiss jazz label UNIT Records join forces with "UNIT live!" to share the diversity of UNIT jazz. We will be showcasing the diversity of UNIT jazz by bringing the latest releases from the UNIT universe to the Moods stage at regular intervals.
