Special guided tour: ‘Stories Behind the Pictures – On Family Photographs, Memory and Belonging’
Since the invention of photography, millions of images have been taken worldwide, yet they remain unevenly distributed to this day. Many people from the so-called ‘Global North’ outside Europe lack images from their own past that might answer questions about their origins and sense of belonging. Artists featured in the exhibition «Almost a Paradise» set out in search of lost images, adding new ones where gaps appear and creating archives of belonging.
Family photographs are at the heart of this interactive tour. Together, we will explore works in the exhibition on memory and belonging, whilst also asking what our own images reveal about us. To this end, a personal image archive was created in advance featuring people from Zurich who have granted access to their private albums and shared their stories with us. They invite us to reflect on the significance of our own family photographs.
A dialogue-based discussion format for listening, exchanging ideas and connecting.
