Suitable for people who already have experience in figure-making/modelling, a basic knowledge of sewing, a great deal of patience and a love of experimenting.

It’s going to be wild!

Using a wide variety of textile materials, we’ll use needle and thread to create an animal creature. Does it have its origins in nature? In the world of fairy tales and fables? In our own imagination?

How do we create an expressive character?

What does the character need to be fun to play with and effective on stage?

We want to explore these and other questions.

There are no patterns or recipes, but don’t worry – the process will show the way.

Starting with a simple sketch and a rough foam core, we’ll work our way forward layer by layer and stitch by stitch. Through meditative sewing, a living character will emerge from wadding, felt and fabric.

This is a time-consuming process. You probably won’t be taking a finished figure home with you by the end of the week. However, all your questions about ‘what happens next?’ will be answered, so that you can finish building your animal on your own later on.

Ahead of the course, there will be a video conference with the participants, during which we’ll discuss, for example, which materials might be suitable for your project.
