Addressing War?

Workshop 1: Listening: Voices, Silence and War

We encounter accounts of war and violence almost every day – in the news, on social media and sometimes in personal stories. But what actually happens when we listen to them? How can we come to terms with experiences that are often difficult to put into words? And what changes when listening itself becomes the starting point?

The workshop is inspired by the art and research project ‘There is no minimum age for war’, which was developed in collaboration with people who had been recruited as minors by armed groups in Colombia.
We listen, tell stories, experiment with voice, sound, breath, rhythm and silence, and explore how these elements alter our perception. The aim is also to discover new ways of engaging with accounts of war and to explore together what attentive listening can enable

The workshop is open to anyone interested; no prior knowledge is required. The workshop will be held in German and English.
