Ideas of Switzerland
What holds a community together? A shared language, external enemies or economic interests – these might be the first things that spring to mind. But all of this is preceded by something else: shared ideas that are passed down from generation to generation and thus shape the community. These ideas become the identity card of a collective and ultimately form the foundation of a nation’s self-image.
Four works by authors whose ideas have helped shape the image of modern Switzerland were selected for the exhibition: Henri Dunant, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Jean Calvin and Petermann Etterlin.
