The boundary between feeling and thinking
Denkraum: Input and discussion on reason and emotion
Thinking and feeling are often seen as opposites: reason on the one hand, emotion on the other. This dichotomy is still attributed to the sexes – for example, when men are assumed to be unable to talk about their feelings, or women are seen as being too emotional.
But can this distinction really be drawn so clearly? What actually happens in the body when we think, and what happens when we feel? Can we think without feeling, or feel without judgements and thoughts already coming into play? How are thinking and feeling connected, and where can they be distinguished from one another?
Harry Wolf and Nicola Condoleo from the Zurich Institute for Philosophical Practice (ZIPPRA) will be opening a space for reflection this evening, in which these questions will be discussed together and examined from different perspectives.
ZIPPRA is a network of practical philosophers from the Zurich and Winterthur areas. As an interface between philosophy and the public sphere, the institute creates spaces for collective reflection on questions of life and living together.
This event is part of the annual focus SPACE.
