Philosophy, the queen of wisdom?
Panel discussion on the role of science and philosophy in society
Should philosophy dictate to the other sciences how they are to carry out their tasks? Or does it stand on an equal footing with them? Does it, therefore, also generate knowledge? If so, how does it differ from the other sciences? Is it even its role to generate knowledge? Should it not, rather, engage in critical inquiry? Might it not ultimately be understood as an extension of the sciences, in the sense that it clarifies their central concepts?
These and other questions will be the focus of this panel discussion, followed by a Q&A session. In addition to the relationship between philosophy and science, the discussion will also address the relevance of these two disciplines to society.
The panellists are the philosopher of science Prof. Dr Claus Beisbart and the philosopher Dr Karim Bschir. Moderator: Simone Olivadoti (Philosophie.ch).
This event is taking place as part of the 11th Long Night of Philosophy. Further information is available here.
