Animals in the Grossmünster
Pious creatures, cheeky faces
Whether sad, contorted, bound, hunted, gluttonous or constantly in flight – there are animals in the Grossmünster. Many are static, adorning a column or, rarely, a window. Only a few are animated, and those are high up. But most tell of a pious life. Church mice? Pulpit swallows? More likely Sigmar Polke’s ram or Charlemagne’s horse. We’ll take a stroll through the cloister and the church. Immerse yourself in the animal world created by stone and glass artists and delight in the imagination spanning eight centuries.
