Strawberry Guy

When Alex Stephens (aka Strawberry Guy) released his debut single independently in 2018, he did so purely out of a love of songwriting. What he hadn’t expected were millions of streams and an enthusiastic global fanbase.

As a one-man impressionist who paints majestic soundscapes, Strawberry Guy combines honest lyrics with lush arrangements to create new emotional worlds. Inspired by Romantic composers or Debussy, Ravel and other classical artists of the 19th century, his wonderland unfolds like a Monet painting, in which arpeggios dance amongst meadows of shimmering dynamics and dramatic key changes.

Drawing on the effect of nature on the emotions, as seen in 1970s songwriters or the fantastic soundtracks that accompany vivid scenes in Studio Ghibli’s Japanese animated films and in video games, the landscape takes centre stage. Monet’s picturesque ‘Meadow at Giverny’ adorns the album cover – perhaps a reminder of the rural views of the Welsh countryside through the window of his childhood home. Take it slow, become one with the wilderness, and remember: when life gives you lemons, swap them for strawberries.
