An echo is more than just a sound – it is memory, reverberation, connection and distance all at once. It carries voices through space and time, amplifies cries or lets them fade away, creates a sense of closeness or emphasises silence and isolation. Under the artistic direction of St. Gallen ballet director Frank Fannar Pedersen and Javier Rodríguez Cobos, a multifaceted two-part dance evening with live music is taking shape, entirely dedicated to this phenomenon.
The first part of the evening is shaped by ‘Vivaldi’s Four Seasons Recomposed’ by the renowned neoclassical film composer Max Richter (‘Hamnet’) and transports us into a space of social interaction, where the perception of time and life cycles come to the fore. In the second part of the evening, ECHOS, two live musicians join the dancers on stage: Christian Zehnder, known for his innovations in overtone singing, and DJ and sound designer Till Zehnder.
Together, they take us on a journey through mountainous soundscapes and alpine freedom. The conceptual idea of the echo remains ever-present. In remote regions, it once symbolised a deep sense of connection and often represented the only bond between people. Today we are constantly in contact, but not always truly
connected. The piece invites a lively dialogue between past and present, nature and innovation. It allows us to experience how connections – between people and with nature – have been fundamental and vital to survival since time immemorial, and are now more so than ever.
