Lab Rats
The audience sits on all four sides of a glass cage, resembling an oversized terrarium, and watches at close quarters as two people come together in a confined space. Like laboratory rats, the two figures, who do not seem to know one another, collide. They eye each other warily, only to approach one another playfully, like children, the next moment. Cautiously, they try to invent a shared language to communicate. Without words. And they learn to get along with one another to put an end to their loneliness. And finally, they find a spectacular way to escape their isolation.
This performance, at times highly artistic, explores in an absurdly comical way the countless adjustments required by a relationship between two people.
Marc Oosterhoff is the rising star of the Swiss circus world. He presents his cross-disciplinary productions on tour throughout Europe. In LAB RATS, together with the artist Owen Winship, he humorously explores the fragility of relationships. The audience witnesses a circus duet from an unusual perspective.
