31. Winterthur Dance Festival

A festival for contemporary dance art

The Winterthur Dance Festival has set itself the goal of bringing a wide spectrum of contemporary dance to a broad audience. Seven evenings of dance pieces from Winterthur, Switzerland and Europe await the audience this November. The 2023 programme offers an exciting mix of established companies and promising newcomers. It takes the audience into bizarre and surreal worlds, takes them to the border between hard reality and endless fantasy and shows which themes are currently preoccupying the art world.

Artists/People

The Cie. Philippe Saire (CH) opens the dance festival with their duet "Salle des Fêtes". A huge bouquet of balloons floating above the heads of the dancers sets the scene for the dance piece, which plays on the border between childlike pleasure and strange menace. "RE.", a dance piece by Cie. Nadine Gerspacher (DE/ES), presses the reset button that brings the turbulence of the pandemic to a halt and enables a new beginning through reconfiguration. Woman's Move (CH) pushes the protagonist to her limits in "The Sensemaker" when she gets stuck in the waiting loop of an answering machine. "RED" by Merge Dance Collective (CH) is a piece for young people and adults. It is a humorous duet about self-expression in social media. Adrien M & Claire B (FR) present a poetic solo in "Hakanaï", in which a dancer explores a space on the border between fantasy and reality.
