About the project
Implausible Rainbows attempts to
imitate one of the most amazing wonders of nature: Rainbows and other optical atmospheric phenomena.
In this transdisciplinary collaboration, artist Lukas Truniger and
scientist Bruce Yoder use multiple highly directional light sources and
special optics to create synthetic rainbows that slowly move and change through the
exhibition space. Visitors
become part of this dynamic environment as they move around freely and experience the
light from different perspectives. Inspired by the
coupled movements of our solar system, periodic
rotations of light and sound create a constantly changing environment.
Implausible Rainbows raises questions about how we interact with our environment
and explores the inherent human desire to imitate and control nature.

About the artists
Lukas Truniger and Bruce Yoder form a transdisciplinary duo in which they
have been collaborating since 2018. They consider the aesthetic, technical and
geopolitical aspects of our ever-improving understanding of
atmospheric conditions and their applications, such as
weather manipulation, from a holistic perspective. Through further
experiments, they formulate critical conclusions and integrate these into
the narrative of their installations and performances.
Their works have been shown at festivals such as Burning Man, Ars Electronica in Linz, Lost Art
Festival in Berlin, Athens Digital Arts Festival, LABoral Centro de Arte in Gijón, Light
Art Grindelwald, Mirage in Lyon, Quai des Savoirs in Toulouse, MMMAD Festival in
Madrid, Sensorium in Bratislava and Liminal Festial in Bucharest.
