Alice Schwarzer – Book launch and discussion with the author
Alice Schwarzer, a pioneer in women’s struggle to break free from subjugation and the patriarchal conditions of past decades, highlights the achievements on which women build today and the challenges and threats we currently face. Is there a backlash on the horizon?
In her new book *Feminismus pur. 99 Worte* (Pure Feminism: 99 Words), Alice Schwarzer offers an insight into her world and takes stock. Using 99 terms – from A for ‘arbeit’ (work) and ‘alter’ (age), I for ‘influencer*innen’ (influencers) and ‘Islamismus’ (Islamism), K for ‘Krieg & Frieden’ (war & peace) or M for ‘MeToo’, O for ‘Ostdeutschland’ (East Germany), R for ‘Rassismus’ (racism) or S for ‘Sexualität’ (sexuality) – she addresses topics that have shaped her thinking and actions over decades. They reflect the milestones of emancipation as well as social and political debates right up to the present day.
This book is conceived as an “invitation to dialogue”, and as Alice Schwarzer is a combative and argumentative personality, we are happy to accept it. There is room for all voices – we hope for a constructive, respectful exchange.
A book that encourages further reflection and discussion.
