Reading in the park – stories from *One Thousand and One Nights*
A unique summer experience!
As dusk falls over the park and the last rays of sunshine disappear between the treetops, the Rietberg Museum and the Literaturhaus invite you to a reading from *One Thousand and One Nights*. Not “Aladdin and the Magic Lamp”, not “Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves”, but dazzling tales of eroticism and the magic of love. Through headphones, you’ll immerse yourself in the world of “Scheherazade” and get to know it in a whole new way.
Even though the book is world-famous, many of the stories are not. Taken together, they are more cheeky and frivolous than one might think. For example, before Scheherazade can even tell the first of her stories, many pages are devoted to describing the cheerful audacity with which women have cheated on even kings – including King Shahryar, whom Scheherazade later keeps in good spirits with her stories.
The reading is based on the books *One Thousand and One Nights*, first translated into German by Claudia Ott, published by C. H. Beck in 2004 (13th edition 2024), and *One Thousand and One Nights. The Book of Love”, first translated into German by Claudia Ott, published by C. H. Beck in 2022.
Please bring your own picnic blankets and seating.
