How can literature be made accessible to everyone?

Literary language does not have to be complicated or eloquent to be effective. Hauke Hückstädt, Director of the Literaturhaus Frankfurt, invited renowned authors to write stories in Plain Language for ‘LiES. Das Buch’ (Piper 2020), Hauke Hückstädt, Director of the Literaturhaus Frankfurt, has invited renowned authors to write stories in plain language. Following the huge success of the first volume, volume 3 is due to be published this autumn, featuring, amongst others, a story by the Viennese author Vea Kaiser. Philip Sippel, curator of the ‘unlesbar’ exhibition at the Strauhof, talks to Vea Kaiser and Hauke Hückstädt about the challenges of writing in plain language, about reading and the magic of restraint.

Plain language in books

Hauke Hückstädt runs the Literatur-Haus Frankfurt.
