Sabine Marcelis – Light and Color
The designer creates sensory moments through light, colour and materiality. Her first museum exhibition features luminous works and spaces in which light itself becomes an experience.
Sabine Marcelis (b. 1985) plays masterfully with light and colour, reflections and transparency. The Dutch designer transforms translucent materials such as glass, resin and natural stone into luminous, reflective and expansive objects. Her works capture the light and, despite their presence and, in some cases, large dimensions, exude a surprising lightness and atmospheric depth. Design, art and architecture form a unified whole in her minimalist creations.
Marcelis’s first museum exhibition brings together key groups of works from recent years with site-specific light installations developed especially for the show. A minimalist scenography condenses lights, mirrors and immersive installations into an intense spatial experience. Prototypes and material studies offer an insight into her creative process. The result is a fascinating presentation full of colour and magic – an exhibition in which the boundaries between object and environment dissolve.
