The Four Seasons

Principal conductor Roberto González-Monjas invites you to the fourth and final lunch concert of the season. It is also the first of four concerts with which the Spanish conductor will bid farewell to his post in Winterthur. He will be performing in a dual role: as well as conducting, he will also take on the solo part in Antonio Vivaldi’s famous tetralogy of violin concertos from his Opus 8, better known as ‘The Four Seasons’. Birdsong in spring, sweltering summer heat punctuated by thunderstorms, rustic peasant dances at harvest time, or sombre, dramatic winter scenes: these four three-movement concertos are arguably the best-known example of Baroque programme music. Just as often as they served as sources of inspiration for subsequent generations of composers, they have been and continue to be performed in concerts and recorded on CDs – and yet every interpretation of this classic is a new discovery. And so we can look forward to the version by the Musikkollegium Winterthur with its principal conductor!
