Eroica

The Musikkollegium Winterthur is always delighted to invite Swiss partner orchestras to Winterthur. In recent years, the orchestra of the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK), the Swiss Orchestra and the St. Gallen Symphony Orchestra have all been guests. Now, for the first time, the argovia philharmonic is coming to the Eulach. Founded in 1963 as the ‘Aargauer Symphonie Orchester’, it is the leading orchestra in the cultural canton of Aargau and ranks among Switzerland’s professional orchestras. Since October 2021, it has had its own concert hall for the first time: the Alte Reithalle in Aarau. However, the orchestra does not limit its performances to the cantonal capital alone, but also plays regularly in Baden, Muri, Rheinfelden, Zofingen and Lenzburg. Since the 2025/26 season, the Spaniard Josep Vicent has been the orchestra’s principal conductor. With ‘El amor brujo’, he is also bringing a calling card from his homeland to Winterthur. Flamenco singer Ginesa Ortega and flamenco dancer David Romero will ensure an authentic interpretation. Ludwig van Beethoven also evokes feelings of pride in his “Eroica”, which he composed “in memory of a great man” after, in a moment of disappointment, destroying the original dedication to Napoleon Bonaparte.
