Book launch: ‘Nothing Is Ever Perfect’
The collection *Nie ist alles gut* brings together ten short stories by Raffael Rihs from Winterthur. With great sensitivity, the author depicts strained relationships or chance encounters that remain unresolved. As in his debut novel *Die Flügel der Anderen* (Caracol, 2023), some of these new stories also feature a homebody who shuns changes to his quiet existence, observing the lives of others and only hesitantly allowing himself to be drawn into them. Even when friendships begin to form here and there, and love seems possible, the characters soon drift apart again. In the new stories, each is told by a first-person narrator. Some of them make surprising acquaintances: in their own flat, whilst waiting in the station café, on the night train to Vienna, in a brasserie in Paris, the city of love, or in an old barn, with a witness to history. Readers of Rihs will also experience a reunion with familiar characters in one of the stories.
