Johannes Millius
Lively on the finish
‘Im Abgang lebhaft’ navigates the tension between a love story and a pre-printed sympathy card. Johannes R. Millius on a journey to his innermost self – past the southern slopes of La Rioja, the Zähringer Pharmacy in Bern and crates full of Lego bricks. A spoken-word evening, oscillating between offering condolences and breaking down. With heart, mischief, absurdity, poetry, madness – and an urn.
It is the story of a love that ended too soon and yet remains. Where memories suddenly speak louder than words, Millius finds humour in the dust of transience. Love and death meet on equal terms – sometimes awkwardly, sometimes tenderly. An evening that offers comfort without becoming kitsch, and makes you laugh when you least expect it.

Johannes R. Millius is, after Sina, Tschugger and various FIFA presidents, the canton of Valais’s latest desperate attempt to come across as somewhat likeable to the rest of Switzerland. Far removed from all the clichés, he nevertheless sounds like a holiday on the Bettmeralp and a skiing camp in Fiesch. And, of course, he knows everyone you know from Valais – presumably even through family connections. Somewhere between Valais humour and quiet melancholy, he shows that even death sounds a little warmer in the local dialect.
