The Theater Kanton Zürich (TZ) was founded in 1971 as a cooperative. The special feature of the theatre is its mobility. As a travelling theatre, it is always playing somewhere else: in the municipalities of the canton as well as in guest theatres ...
Heidi
By Johanna Spyri A play by Markus Steinwender in Swiss German and Standard German
Heidi lives in the mountains with her grandfather, the Alpöhi. As an orphan, she has found a home here. For her, there is nothing better than tending the goats with Geissenpeter, playing in the wide meadows and sleeping in the hay. But then Aunt Dete takes her to Frankfurt, where she is to live with a wealthy family in the big city. Their daughter Klara is in a wheelchair and is delighted to have her company. The two become friends. But Heidi is plagued by homesickness and wants nothing more than to return to the mountains. Her wish is granted and she returns to Alpöhi. When Klara visits her in the mountains, she gets to know and love Heidi’s world, which leads to many a miracle.
Director Sophia Bodamer from Zurich stages the play in Schwyzerdütsch and High German, with music by Anna Trauffer.
Sophia Bodamer: “For me, ‘Heidi’ is simply a very beautiful story about home, friendship and family. Three actors play all the characters. In our version, they also speak Schwyzerdütsch, because that makes the characters feel even closer to us. I also believe that, for us Swiss, the connection to home is very strongly linked to the dialect.”
