‘Nothing special’

Four people with a great love of Swiss music come together: they want to put on a Swiss song recital and a play – but time is running out!

Luckily, a musician is already on hand; there’s even a keyboard available. But what should they sing? Songs in Swiss dialect? Only two members of the ensemble speak Swiss dialect; the others haven’t a clue what’s going on. And what Swiss music does the troupe actually know?

Quite a lot! They sing Stephan Eicher, Rumpelstilz, Yello, Sophie Hunger, Polo Hofer, Züri West, Faber, To Athena, Steiner & Madlaina, Stiller Has, Patent Ochsner, Grauzone, Mani Matter and much more. But what are all these songs without a story?
That’s when they have a brilliant idea: William Tell! The roles are immediately cast: Tell and his wife, their two sons, the tyrannical bailiff Gessler and the oppressed Swiss people. And so begins a turbulent Wilhelm Tell revue, hilariously funny and full of unexpected twists. It’s hard to predict how it will end. But one thing is certain: it’s going to be ‘something special’.

“The Swiss song recital by the Theatre Canton of Zurich is simply magnificent. What makes this recital special is that it conveys a piece of Swiss cultural history almost as a by-product. Direct, charming and playful.” Kaa Linder, SRF, Regionaljournal Zürich Schaffhausen
