The Theater Kanton Zürich (TZ) was founded in 1971 as a cooperative. The special feature of the theatre is its mobility. As a travelling theatre, it is always playing somewhere else: in the municipalities of the canton as well as in guest theatres ...
The Diary of Anne Frank
By Anne Frank. Translated into German by Mirjam Pressler. The only authorised version: Otto H. Frank and Mirjam Pressler, translated by Mirjam Pressler
‘So much has happened, it’s as if the world has suddenly turned upside down. But, Kitty, you can see that I’m still alive, and that’s the main thing, says Dad.’ Anne Frank
Anne Frank is 13 years old when her father gives her a red-chequered diary as a birthday present. She lives in Amsterdam with her family. When her sister Margot receives a summons for ‘compulsory labour in Germany’ on 5 July 1942, the Jewish family is forced to go into hiding to prevent their deportation to a concentration camp. The family now lived in hiding for two years in the rear annex of her father Otto Frank’s company. Anne Frank wrote about her everyday experiences, fears and hopes.
‘We can no longer change what has happened. The only thing we can do is learn from the past and recognise what discrimination and the persecution of innocent people mean.’ Otto Frank, in an interview in 1979
We are staging this production as a classroom play, as well as in a longer version for small theatres.
