Pink Floyd meets Edgar Allan Poe
"Atom Heart Mother" and "The Fall of the House of Usher"
An evening of musical theatre that fuses the music of Pink Floyd with the world of Edgar Allan Poe.
‘Atom Heart Mother’ is a 24-minute composition by Pink Floyd from 1970, which represents a genuine integration of classical culture into pop music. It captivates with its unconventional line-up. At the Rigiblick, the stage will feature a 30-strong choir with soloists, the Pink Floyd tribute band ‘Crazy Diamond’, 14 brass players, a cellist and an actor.
We juxtapose Pink Floyd’s music with Edgar Allan Poe’s short story ‘The Fall of the House of Usher’.
Due to the drug-induced psychosis of their founding member Syd Barrett (1946–2006), Pink Floyd repeatedly explored the phenomenon of ‘madness’ in depth throughout their work.
In Edgar Allan Poe’s powerful and eloquent short story “The Fall of the House of Usher”, the first-person narrator’s friend suffers from mental illness.
