Duke Ellington’s The Nutcracker Suite
Rigiblick & Friends with Klaus Henner Russius and the Zurich Jazz Orchestra
The Zurich Jazz Orchestra performs Duke Ellington’s *The Nutcracker Suite*. Klaus Henner Russius reads E.T.A. Hoffmann’s fairy tale *The Nutcracker*.
Duke Ellington and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky meet in Las Vegas, and Ellington decides to record an entire album of pieces by another composer for the first time:
Tchaikovsky’s *The Nutcracker Suite*. Naturally, he has infused the romantic original with swing and improvisation! Together with the fantastic exuberance of E.T.A. Hoffmann and his fairy tale *The Nutcracker and the Mouse King*, a world of sparkling Christmas forests and translucent marzipan castles unfolds, where you can glimpse the most marvellous things if only you have the eyes and ears to see them.
Happy Advent!
