The Flying Carpet: Sardinia
Impressions from the Land of the Wind
Even amongst Sardinia enthusiasts, she remains something of an insider’s tip: the 1926 Nobel Prize winner for Literature (Luigi Pirandello is said to have been fuming…) Grazia Deledda (1871–1936), who not only created a literary legacy for her Sardinian homeland around Nuoro, but whose sensitive characterisations, enchanting landscape descriptions and strong female characters continue to captivate readers to this day. When it comes to conjuring up moods with just a few words, Grazia Deledda is unrivalled.
The Swiss actress Charlotte Schwab, known for countless television roles, has performed on all the major stages of German-speaking theatre. We are particularly delighted that she is finally visiting us again to introduce us to the prose of one of the most significant authors of Italian Naturalism.
The evening will also feature music and songs straight from Sardinia: the Swiss music legend, chansonnière and passionate musician Dodo Hug will perform with her Sardinian life and stage partner, the guitarist and singer Efisio Contini perform music from their wonderful double album “Castiadas – Sardinian Songs Then and Now”, accompanied by the multi-instrumentalist Michele Siciliano.
“Castiadas” translates as: glances, perhaps those of fellow countrymen and fellow citizens when a stranger passed by. But Castiadas is also the name of the village where I spent my early childhood and part of my youth. Castiadas is the starting point of a narrated journey through Sardinia…” writes Efisio Contini. And one of Grazia Deledda’s last and most beautiful novels is *Il Paese del Vento*, translated into German as *Blicke der Liebe und des Neids*.
This performance is part of the series ‘The Flying Carpet – Eight Literary and Musical Island Journeys’.
A season ticket is also available for this series. Eight performances for a season ticket price of CHF 240. Order at info@theater-rigiblick.ch
