The Promise

The body of little Gritli Moser is found in the woods near Mägendorf. Inspector Matthäi, who has actually already been transferred to Jordan and has only a few days left in the job, promises the girl’s mother that he will catch the murderer. Shortly afterwards, the sole suspect confesses to the crime – not entirely of his own free will – and commits suicide. The case appears to be closed. Not for Matthäi. Obsessed with the idea that he is on the trail of a serial killer, he devises a dubious plan. He takes over a petrol station as the tenant and sets a trap there for the unknown murderer. His housekeeper’s young daughter serves as the decoy.
