Whether the pomegranate trees are in bloom

A literary and musical dialogue that transcends death – both a declaration of love and an epitaph.

Following the death of his wife Dorli, who had been by his side and supported his work for over six decades, Gerhard Meier found a way out of his loneliness through writing. In his final work, *Ob die Granatbäume blühen* (Whether the Pomegranate Trees Bloom), the award-winning Swiss writer bid farewell to his late companion: ‘And I asked myself whether, in the end, we live so that we may remember’.

The reading from this tender memoir, which explores themes of love, transience and grief, is accompanied by a recital on these very themes, featuring pieces spanning three centuries: by Bach, Brahms, Cornelius, Dvořák, Haydn, Poulenc, Schoeck and Wolf.

Gerhard Meier loved music and the art of the art song. It is safe to say that he would have enjoyed this evening.
