The war with Iran – a global turning point for the USA as a world power?

Since 1980, the Gulf region has been the part of the world to which Washington has devoted the most money, weapons and political capital in order to secure it. Consequently, the Gulf region has been the arena in which Washington has repeatedly reshaped, tested and demonstrated its global power – each time with implications for the entire world. At the same time, the US presence and the wars in the region have always been a heavy burden for the US. Against this backdrop, what consequences will the war with Iran have for the region itself, for the US as a superpower, and for the global order?
