The cuts to USAID funding have had a major impact on global development aid. Which policy instruments are best placed to promote peace in the current situation, and what can a country such as Switzerland do to reduce the risks of armed conflict? Drawing on recent empirical studies, we will discuss the extent to which development aid can promote or hinder peace, and what other policy approaches play a role.
