Andres Lutz, *Dr Lüdi Sings to the Machine*

An attempt to save humanity from itself after all – Lüdi, as oracle, chronicler and voyeur, mobilises the power of independent thought.

The magnificent conveniences brought about by engineering are currently in the process of destroying the very foundations of our natural existence. Fortunately, life has somehow managed to carry on! Lüdi packages all this into a kind of conciliatory indictment. Starting with the history of the Swiss mindset since the Industrial Revolution, through the unfolding of exuberant prosperity, to the emergence of conspiracy theories and the fragmentation of a shared reality into countless partial realities. A story that is as sad as it is funny! Although the situation is deadly serious, Lüdi pulls out all the stops to entertain, amuse and comfort his audience!

Andres Lutz, alias Dr Lüdi, is one of Switzerland’s most original and versatile artists. Initially celebrated as an insider’s tip in the 1990s, his cabaret duo with Gerhard Meister, ‘Geholten Stühle’, was awarded the Salzburger Stier in 2000. Today, Lutz is one half of the internationally successful artistic collective Lutz & Guggisberg. And every now and then, he takes to the stage as Dr Lüdi, his alter ego. “What I do is often quite simple, often quite funny; sometimes it requires a bit of effort… I create my shows for people who also find it a pleasure not to have the full picture all the time, but to gain an all the deeper understanding in the end.”
