An encounter with a ghost dog – and Thomas Meyer and Magali Franov

Herschel has been with the Mick family ever since he was a puppy. Back then, Luise was still a baby, and Herschel is now very old. He is unwell; he is in pain and tired. It is with a heavy heart that the Mick family must say goodbye.

Saying goodbye to Herschel is only half a goodbye, because Herschel is still here; he no longer feels any pain, but rather a sense of lightness and joy. Full of energy, he floats around the Mick family, but they cannot see him. Luise senses his presence, and before long the Mick family has a new, invisible member. At last, Herschel can vomit on the carpet or have a nap on the sofa without being disturbed, because ghosts don’t shed hair.

This children’s book tackles the death of a family dog in a funny, accessible and sensitive way.

‘Herschel, the Ghost Dog’ was nominated for the Swiss Children’s and Young People’s Book Prize this year.

Reading session for children aged 5 and over; accompanying adults also need a ticket.
