Catrina, the Skeleton / Calaca, la Catrina

Directed by: Elizabeth Arciniega Haag; Translated by Patrick Haag (in Spanish with German surtitles)

The LaVox Theatre is bringing a slice of Mexican culture to the Swiss stage: ‘Catrina, the Skeleton’ (original title: Calaca, la Catrina) enchants audiences as a colourful, Spanish-language theatre experience with German surtitles. At the heart of this poetic drama lies the fascinating cult surrounding the Mexican ‘Day of the Dead’ (Día de Muertos).

This production by the Zurich theatre company tells the moving story of a young man who unexpectedly finds himself in the surreal realm of the dead. Alongside the iconic, elegant skeleton lady Catrina, he embarks on an emotional journey of discovery. Balancing melancholy, humour and a zest for life, the play explores the transience of existence in a profound way.

A magical, visually stunning evening of theatre, full of colour, music and emotion, which skilfully bridges the gap between cultures. An absolute highlight this autumn for lovers of international contemporary theatre.
