Clawhammer technique for the ukulele

Caspar Noetzli teaches without sheet music, using a demonstrate-and-follow method.

Clawhammer is a rhythmic strumming technique in which the strings are struck with the fingernail and thumb rather than plucked. This creates a driving sound in which melody, rhythm and chords are played simultaneously – a playing style that differs significantly from conventional strumming and picking patterns. The high G string of the ukulele plays a central role in this..

We will work on the basic strumming pattern and play our first simple pieces. Lessons are taught without sheet music, through demonstration and imitation.
