ClubNight #3 – Vintage Latin Folk: Love Stories
Timeless songs of Latin America: poetic, passionate, rousing
Swiss harpist Daniela Lorenz, together with the two Paraguayan musicians Javier Miers and Eladio Pedrozo, takes the audience on a musical journey through Latin America.
The warm tones of the Paraguayan harp blend with guitars and expressive vocals. Timeless songs alternate with spirited, virtuosic instrumental pieces in which the harp takes centre stage as a solo instrument.
The repertoire brings together characteristic musical styles and rhythms from various regions of Latin America – including Paraguayan polkas and guaranias, Cuban cha-cha-chas, as well as traditional melodies and songs from the Andes, Mexico, Argentina and Venezuela. The music tells of love, longing, home and a zest for life. The trio’s original arrangements and finely tuned ensemble playing lend both well-known and lesser-known melodies a distinctive, lively sound, whilst at the same time bringing out the unmistakable character of Latin American music.
With brief explanations, Daniela Lorenz guides the audience through the evening, offering insights into the stories behind the pieces and their cultural backgrounds.
