The Secret Life of Plants
Using a microscope, he shows leaves, spines, stinging hairs, spores, barbs and aero-seeds. In this way, the audience learns how plants breathe, feed, reproduce, disperse, and what chemical and physical tricks they use to ward off predators.
He also demonstrates the intelligent watering system of mosses. Some of them unfurl within seconds upon contact with water, awakening from months of dry dormancy.
A highlight is ‘milking’ a stinging nettle. Together with the audience, he lets the venom flow from the stinging hairs.
This will be followed by a book sale featuring his non-fiction books for children and families, including a book-signing session.
