Exploring the sky

Exhibition of Astronomical Instruments from the Collection of Rudolf Wolf

Rudolf Wolf, the first director of the ETH Observatory and a pioneer of sunspot research, collected everything related to astronomy, including sundials, astrolabes and graphometers. Today, around 300 of his objects belong to the collection of scientific instruments and teaching aids at the ETH Library.

In the foyer of the observatory, a new exhibition offers you insights into Rudolf Wolf's collection at its place of origin. Get to know the measuring instruments, sundials as well as the telescope Wolf used to count sunspots and learn how to use them.

The exhibition is available in German and English as well as in simple language.
