CELEBRATING DEATH
THE END AS AN EVENT
Alongside birth, death is the most profound and, at the same time, the final event in a person’s life. Since the dawn of civilisation, therefore, not only rituals but also a multitude of celebrations and festivals marking the end of life have become established: The dead are remembered, honoured, and their continued or different existence is celebrated. Whether it is All Souls’ Day here in Germany, the ‘Day of the Dead’ in Mexico or the Ma’Nene ceremony on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi: We’re taking a deep dive into celebrations surrounding death – and afterwards, you’re invited to join us for a ‘Día de los Muertos’ event featuring live music, an art installation and cocktails at the Old Sihlfeld Crematorium!
An event in cooperation with the Cemetery Forum of the City of Zurich.
